Let’s take a closer look at what an ACI Flatwork Certification is and why it is crucial in achieving the best possible finish for your commercial and industrial concrete projects.
Who Are The ACI?
The American Concrete Institute (ACI), founded in 1904, is dedicated to promoting progress, innovation, and collaboration in the concrete industry. As the leading resource and authority for the development, delivery, and uptake of training, educational, and certification programs for the best use of concrete, the ACI continues to set the global standards for its 30,000+ members worldwide.
What Is a Concrete Flatwork Finisher?
Formerly known as a Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician, an Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher, is a person who has shown that they understand the procedures and have the skills required to place, consolidate, edge, joint, sure, and protect concrete flatwork.

To become ACI Advanced Flatwork Finisher certified, a skilled individual must complete a written exam with an acceptable passing grade and complete a hands-on performance exam or complete a written exam with verification of 4,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing.
Becoming A Concrete Flatwork Finisher
To obtain an ACI Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher certification, candidates must have achieved a minimum of 4,500 hours of on-the-job finishing experience and must successfully pass the written exam. A certificate is valid for five years, after which time the applicant must complete and pass another written exam or a combination of 10 hours of continuing education and verified work experience within the previous 5 years.

Not only is ACI Flatwork Certification required on most commercial projects, but you can also rest easy knowing that your industrial or commercial concrete projects will be completed to the highest standards possible when working with a concrete company that employs certified ACI Flatwork Finishers.
